Volunteering at the Bobcaygeon Curling Club |
Volunteers at the Bobcaygeon Curling Club are responsible for making the Club as strong as it is today. We pride ourselves in offering great hospitality as well amazing events and the hours and effort that our Volunteers commit helps make it all happen. From various committees to special events, there is always somewhere that a Volunteer is needed. A few examples are given below:
Social Committee
This group of volunteers is responsible for arranging and hosting the four major social events held at the Club annually. These are the Golf Tournament in mid-September, the Meet–and-Greet to welcome new and returning curlers in October, the Christmas Celebration dinner and dance and, finally, the Year-end Party.
These events often require additional assistance, so please watch for notices, either on the Club bulletin board or through theClub website. Remember…. this is a great way to meet your fellow curlers and have lots of fun.
Bar Services Committee
The bar area of the Lounge is a hive of activity just about every day of the week and in our Club it is tended entirely by members who have successfully completed the Smart Serve Responsible Alcohol Beverage Service Training Program, as approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. A ‘Volunteers Required’ list is posted for bonspiels and special occasions as they happen.
Kitchen Services Committee
This group of Volunteers is responsible for getting the kitchen organized and ready to serve the regular curling throughout the week as well as bonspiels and special events. Members are asked to sign up to do coffee time, lunches and dinners for in-Club and Open Bonspiels. The ‘sign-up’ board listing all of the activities requiring volunteer help is posted on the kitchen door at the start of the season.
In addition to the committees identified above, there is a host of Volunteer activities that carry on throughout the Curling season and beyond. We rely on members to assist with bonspiels, coaching activities, building maintenance, marketing, league convenors, communications and much more. It is clear that Volunteers are the backbone of this Club.
