On Jan. 11th, Bobcaygeon Curling Club again hosted the annual Town & Country Mixed Bonspiel, sponsored nicely by Fred and Diane Livie for the umpteenth year!! We had teams from York Region, Port Perry, Whitby, Sutton, Lakefield and Fenelon Falls join our usual group of local teams in friendly competition. The Fenelon Falls team, skipped by Brian MacMillan, consisting of Laura Ferguson, along with Jan and Bryce Warwick prevailed to take home the hardware. Our volunteer ladies did their usual marvelous job of preparing and serving breakfast goodies, as well as lunch. I want to add a note here to show the extreme dedication of one of the kitchen volunteers, namely, Astrid Bjerring. Saturday morning was very icy and treacherous. Astrid slipped and fell in her driveway, as she was out early to bring some baking over to the club for all the curlers to enjoy. She suffered a leg injury, that later proved to be a broken ankle, but still managed to get both herself and her baking in her car, and then drive to the curling club. She was carried inside, and waited an hour and a half for paramedics to take her to Ross Hospital, where she was operated on to set her ankle right. Astrid, you're amazing!! Dinner was catered by Niklaus, of Heritage Creations, with everyone enjoying a fine meal. In addition to the cash prizes given out to the deserving teams, Diane Livie assisted the various winners in selecting merchandise supplied by Town & Country...lots of paint to go around. I wish to thank all my many helpers, that enabled us to put on another successful event at our curling club, and add to our good reputation. Cheers, Hector Campbell |

Bobcaygeon Curling Club Hosts Annual Local Charity EventThe first annual ‘Bobcaygeon Cares’ local Charity bonspiel played out at the Bobcaygeon Curling Club from February 19th through to the 22nd. It was a great Community success story as the event included more than 96 local curlers, numerous Volunteers and attracted the sponsorship of many local businesses. The event started on Wednesday evening with all curlers playing one game on each of the three evenings. Saturday was a full day with curling continuing through until the early afternoon after which the Silent Auction bidding commenced on a vast array of items including many handcrafted articles as well as home furnishings, gourmet foods, gift certificates and sports equipment. In addition, curlers and their guests were invited to purchase tickets for the incredible raffle table. Local businesses, residents and Club members donated all of the items available. The day wrapped up with a hearty roast chicken dinner for all followed by the presentation of medals to the winning curlers. The real winners of the event are local charitable organizations selected by the Curling Club to be this year’s recipients of the proceeds. The Bobcaygeon Helps Food Bank and Community Care (Bobcaygeon and District) will share the bulk of the proceeds and a smaller donation has been presented to the Bobcaygeon Horticultural Society. The Bobcaygeon Curling Club would like this to be the first of many annual bonspiels recognizing the good work of local Charitable organizations.
